NASH MEMBER UPDATE - July 2007

The North American Society of Homeopaths is dedicated to promote, represent and serve as the voice of all professional homeopaths in North America. We thank our members for their immediate response to our call for board nominations and completion of our member survey. We will be posting the voting ballot early August 2007.

If you have corrections to the information we print in these updates, please let us know and we will make the correction in the following update.

In addition, if you have any information to share with the homeopathic community, please send it to Liz at nashinfo@aol.com. NASH updates are posted every two months. The deadline for the next submission is August 31, 2007th.

Survey Results

Thank you to those of you who were able to provide us with your conference survey results. Your responses have been shared with the conference planning committee. Some of your concerns and suggestions will be applied to next year’s conference. It seems that the biggest reason most people were not able to come is financial limitations. As a board we have frequently discussed this common dilemma facing homeopaths and intend to keep this issue in the forefront as we continue to be the voice for professional homeopaths.

While not all of the suggestions can be implemented at this time, they will help mold future conferences. The general consensus was that people do want to meet, but financial and time constraints, as well as personal obligations and other educational opportunities limit participation. Please do remember that joining together with these other homeopathic organizations has provided an incredible opportunity to continue to foster unity in a community that has been, until recently, at odds with itself. These are exciting times for our profession and all around us the tide is slowly turning. In unity we are stronger and slowly the voice of homeopathy is being heard by the larger community within which we all live and work. We hope that we all may enjoy a higher income bracket from the work we do in service to humanity.

Conference Update

Mark your calendars and please make every effort to attend! We are looking forward to the 3rd Annual Joint American Homeopathic Conference to be held from April 11th-15th at the Crowne Plaza at the Crossings in Warwick, Rhode Island. Each participating organization has been given time to meet during the conference.

NASH members will be invited to attend our luncheon/meeting on Saturday, April 12th. We are looking to televise this meeting so that members who are unable to attend can participate via webcam and AIM. Since the current board members are rather technically challenged in this area, we are looking for someone who could help get this arranged. We are also looking at this model of communication for future membership meetings. Please contact Liz in the main office if you can help.

You should have received an email calling for speakers. For submission requirements, please contact Liz or the National Center for Homeopathy at info@nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org. Speakers will be chosen by the consensus of board members of NASH, AIH, HANP, HNA and NCH.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the homeopathic community to meet and share ideas for homeopathy's future. Homeopathy will take its rightful place in healing only if we work together - the opposition is strong and well funded.

Update from Canada

Bi-national liaison Basil Ziv and president Manfred Mueller have been working closely with various Canadian organizations regarding the Ontario Regulation bill. In mid-May, the Ontario government withdrew its original proposal to create a combined College of Naturopaths and Homeopaths and, in addition, the controlled acts have been removed. In its place the government proposed two separate colleges under similar conditions and this legislation, contained in the massive Bill 171, passed into law as of June 4, 2007. We at NASH are satisfied that our efforts and those of other members of our coalition succeeded in protecting the integrity of our profession. We have achieved this by obtaining our own College as distinct from the Naturopaths and we have protected the current level of practice of homeopaths by having the controlled acts removed. We see this development as a significant milestone for the promotion of homeopathy as a stand alone profession.

The new Homeopathy Act calls for the formation of a Transitional Council that will develop and implement regulations, by-laws and policies relating to the ethics and standards of practice of homeopathy in Ontario. As many as nine individuals from the homeopathic community will be appointed to this council and notice of these positions will be posted on the Public Appointments Secretariat website; http://www.pas.gov.on.ca/scripts/en/home.asp. NASH is looking to be appointed to this transitional council as we have an already internationally recognized standard of practice and ethical guidelines. We also share the concern of the Canadian Society of Homeopaths in that we want to make sure that the transitional council will reflect the needs of the entire homeopathic community in Ontario rather than specific interests.

While regulation is not health freedom we do believe this to be a significant success for the recognition of the practice of homeopathy. We will keep you posted on updates as they develop.

American Homeopath, Volume 13

This year’s journal is being produced by an editorial committee with one lead editor and several copy editors rather than a single person tackling the entire job. Thank you to the NASH members who have stepped up to the editorial committee and are working in lightning speed to be sure to get this journal off to the printers in time for a fall publication. Thank you to Richa Eland for manning the job of chief editor and Patti Jordan, Rosemary Hyde, Suzanne Smith, Pam McAlister, Bonnie Carpenter, Sarah Trask, Julie Mann and Chris Mueller for all of your expedient work in copy editing and proofing. A special thanks to our interviewees, Professor A. R. Kkuda-Bukhsh, PhD, Valerie Ohanian, RSHom (NA) and Laurie Dack, RSHom(NA).

The American Homeopath is a world renowned journal and we are committed to keeping the work and presentation at the same high level as it has always been. Stay tuned for details about Volume 14 as we look to streamline the journal production process.

Storage

Many years ago a storage unit was rented in Oakland, CA for NASH journals and other miscellaneous files. We need a couple of volunteers to arrange for shipment to our office in Florida. If you are able to help, it would be greatly appreciated. We spend around $1,500/year for the storage unit and feel that the money could go to more useful things. Please contact Liz for more details.

Defense Fund

The board recently approved investing the defense fund, currently at $35,000 in a higher interest bearing account.

Website

We are continuing to develop our website and will soon be unveiling our new shopping cart. Visitors will be able to renew memberships, purchase journals, make donations and make selections from the lending library.

Registered members: If you haven’t already done so, send us your bio to be linked directly to your directory listing. A member bio page sample is demonstrated on the directory's main page @ http://www.homeopathy.org/directory.html. If you would like NASH to create a bio page with a direct link, please contact Liz for details.

We also continue to collect bios of registered members who are teachers. Your information will be available for individuals or organizations looking for teachers of a particular subject or setting. We are promoting our members who would like to mentor new homeopathic graduates through our school membership associations. If you have not already done so make sure to update your bio.

Legislative Update

NASH continues to gather information about pending Health Freedom legislation and will provide an update shortly. If you have information concerning your state, please let us know.

International Council of Homeopathy (ICH), Inaugural Meeting

Oct 18, 2007, Heidelberg, Germany In February 2007 NASH joined the ICH to become a part of the worldwide movement toward the promotion of homeopathy. Our vice president, Kate Birch, will be traveling to Germany this fall (as a part of a family vacation/ book tour) and will represent NASH. There will be representatives from 27 different countries for this day long meeting. The European Council for Classical Homeopathy (ECCH) is co-hosting the meeting along with the Links Conference which begins the following day. They are aiming for 600 homeopaths to attend the conference. The impact of a meeting like this for the benefit of homeopathy is profound. As you may know the ECCH has been working directly with the World Health Organization overseeing the (as of yet) undisclosed report on the endorsement of homeopathy world wide. The circulation of Kate’s recently published book, Vaccine Free Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Contagious Disease with Homeopathy is in synchronicity with these events and hopefully will provide a tangible tool for WHO initiatives in the implementation of homeopathy in developing countries. We will keep you posted on the developments that result from this meeting.
