NASH Board Members

Manfred Mueller, RSHom (NA), CCH (NASH President)

Manfred was first introduced to classical homeopathy in 1978, and began his homeopathic studies in 1979. Prior to his training in homeopathy, he was a psychotherapist with a Masters degree in psychology. He has degrees in theology and psychology from the University of Tübingen, Germany and the University of West Georgia.

In 1986, Manfred began a full-time homeopathic practice in Durham, North Carolina, where he practiced for 18 years. He subsequently relocated to Ojai, California and the North Carolina mountains. He sustains a busy phone practice, serving clients across the U.S. and in Europe.

Manfred holds specialty certificates in homeopathic cardiology and neurology. Manfred has been an educational consultant, lecturer, textbook editor, and his practice has served as an official clinical rotation and teaching site for medical students nationwide. In 1989 he founded the Homeopathic College, which offers advanced interactive tele-tutorials and teaching clinics.

Manfred has been a member of the National Center for Homeopathy since 1986 and received his certification in classical homeopathy in 1995 by the Council for Homeopathic Certification. He is a board member of the Homeopathic Action Alliance and has been President of NASH since 2005.

A veteran health freedom fighter since 1990, Manfred, in 2003, became a Board member of Citizens for Healthcare Freedom (a position he left in 2005), a state leader with the National Health Freedom Coalition (which he is still a member of), and spearheaded the legislative campaign to enable the practice of alternative healthcare in North Carolina. The Health Freedom bill he drafted in 2003 is still pending in the NC legislature as of May 2008!

Manfred's vision for NASH is to continue to set and implement optimal standards of excellence in the mastery of our craft and to be the defining voice for unlicensed homeopathic healthcare practice in North America.

Cassie Travaini, RSHom (NA), CCH (NASH Vice President)

Cassie has a background in business, marketing, massage, as well as naturopathic training. She has completed over 1200 hours in classical homeopathy with various internationally recognized teachers. Cassie completed the CCH certification in 1997 and became registered with NASH in 1999. She lives and practices in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area. In practice since 1991, Cassie teaches all levels of curriculum from the basics to advanced studies and was a founding member and principle teacher of the New Mexico School of Classical Homeopathy.

"I intend to bring to the board a wealth of practical skills from business, practice, teaching and administration. My vision for service to the homeopathic community is to see homeopathy as an economically viable, sustaining profession. In order to accomplish that, we need to continue working toward unification among the homeopathic organizations so we can present a united front. With a united force of homeopathic organizations and practitioners, we can turn our vision into a reality through equipping and mobilizing local grassroots efforts aimed at state legislatures and state insurance organizations. The tasks seem overwhelming when approached by one person; the tasks are doable when approached by groups working together."

Carleen Johnson, RSHom (NA), CCH (NASH Secretary)

A graduate of the New England School of Homeopathy, Carleen has studied classical homeopathy since 1988 and has been practicing since l995. Carleen is a member of the Maine Association of Homeopaths and has practices in Belfast and Thorndike, Maine. In addition to her homeopathic education she holds a baccalaureate in psychology, a master's degree in counseling, and a certificate of advanced studies in career counseling.  She lives in rural Maine with her husband and three children.

As NASH’s Secretary, Carleen’s previous work experience with various boards  greatly benefits the organization as well as her goals of educating members and ensuring open communication.

Julie Mann, RSHom (NA), CCH (NASH Treasurer)

Coming from a diverse background of film production, business management and art curriculum development, Julie Mann discovered her true passion in the practice of homeopathy over 15 years ago.   Trained through the School of Homeopathy in Los Angeles and Lou Klein’s Master Clinician course, her practice includes both humans and animals.  She is the founder of the Homeopathic Collective of Los Angeles, better known to the locals as the “Monday Night Study Group”, where students and practitioners meet each week to study, share knowledge, and consult on cases.

In collaboration with Venice herbalist, David Crow, she has created The Learning Garden, an organic medicinal herb garden designed bring the knowledge of cultivation and use of medicinal plants to the community.   She hopes to be of service to NASH, and to help further develop the profession of homeopathy in the United States.

Laura Sholtz, PhD., RSHom, CCH, FBIH, a classical Homeopath and MasterHerbalist, has been practicing in the Central Maine area since 1989.  She is on the Board of Directors for both the North American Society of Homeopaths (NASH) and the Council for Homeopathic Certification (CCH), and is currently the Registrar for NASH.  Laura also works as a tutor for the British Institute of Homeopathy, and teaches classes on homeopathy and alternative healing locally.  one of her goals is to have knowledge of homeopathy in every home and easily available to all, as an automatic first choice for healing, rather than only as a last chance.

Laura's Center for Natural Healing is located in Exeter, Maine, where she lives with her husband, one daughter still in college, and tribe of cats.

Basil Ziv, B.Com, RSHom (NA), CCH (Canadian Rep)

Basil began his homeopathic studies in 1990 when he joined the Toronto Homeopathic Study Group. He began his practice in 1992 and became a member of NASH in 1995. Basil was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and graduated from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He has a background in small business and experience as a mediator in civil and family law matters.

He is a teacher, tutor and mentor to homeopaths and students of homeopathy throughout North America. Basil has taught at the Homeopathic Academy of Southern California in San Diego, The Toronto School of Homeopathic Medicine and an Advanced Clinicians Program at his own Centre of Homeopathic Medicine. In addition to his general practice in Classical Homeopathy, Basil holds a certificate in developmental neurology and provides therapy for brain injury at the Association for the Neurologically Disabled in Ontario.

Basil's vision is for NASH to become the preeminent association for professional homeopaths in North America. His vision is to promote NASH to fill the needs of all professional homeopaths whether they are graduates from other medical disciplines or schools of homeopathy. Basil's vision is one where all homeopaths work together for the common good of humanity and the health of this planet.

There is currently a movement towards the regulation of homeopathy in Ontario, Canada. Basil believes that the outcome of this movement in Ontario can affect the practice of homeopathy throughout North America. At this time in 2005, there is division within the homeopathic community. Basil believes that he can help promote healing within the community. He is engaging with other homeopathic associations, professionals and the government in order to achieve these goals.

NASH Administrator

Elizabeth (Liz) Bonfig

Liz brings to her role as NASH's administrator an extensive background in office management and administrative support.  She understands the importance of good customer service having spent many years as a successful sales manager and tremendously enjoys assisting NASH's wonderful members.

Her discovery of homeopathy, as with so many, resulted from her two boys constantly being prescribed antibiotics for recurrent colds and ear infections. Knowing there had to be a better way, it didn’t take long for her to develop a passion for homeopathy; telling everyone she meets about the amazing little pellets.

Liz’s long term goals include studying to be a professional homeopath; eventually displaying an RSHom designation by her name. She is proud to be a member of the NASH team, particularly at such an exciting time for the profession.
